When we first started doing disaster relief we’d go out for short periods of time, and we mostly stayed in church basements on air mattresses and cots. As we began staying longer, getting older, and having more age-related body issues we began looking into purchasing an RV for us to live in and serve out of.
In 2016 The Lord blessed us with a $55k 5th wheel for $15k! Some of you have seen it, been in it, and we pray been blessed by some of MJ’s cooking and our time in God’s Word together or just sitting around fellowshipping, watching a movie, etc. It has truly been a blessing to us! When we first got it, I did a lot of work to make it into our headquarters and since we deployed right to Colorado after we picked it up, I had to do some extra stuff to it in order for us to survive negative temps over the winter!
Over time, like everything else in life, things happened, and I was able to fix them and keep up on the maintenance. You may remember that we’ve had 2 floods in it, one was pretty bad due to someone accidentally turning on the water to it when we were away, and the other due to a small pipe leak.
A couple of years ago I started noticing that one of the slide outs was separating on the outside on the bottom where the wall met. I tried my best to seal everything up but over time it kept getting worse. This past year it started happening on 2 more slides and the 4th one looks like it’s starting to develop some issues. I put some awnings over them and even put a small awning over 2 of the windows that were above the affected areas. But unfortunately, I discovered that there’s more damage then what we could see and it looks like we can no longer keep putting money and our time into this RV and be effective with the other things that we need to focus on.
We’ve been praying and talking to some close ministry friends and have decided that we’re going to need to purchase another RV. I’ve been looking at some things online and it looks like we’re going to need around $50,000 to get one that’s used and in good enough shape that I won’t spend a lot of time and money out the gate. Mary Jo says that I don't need anymore projects!!
Trailers do decay quickly, especially when they’re used full-time! I don’t recommend living in one full-time for anyone unless it’s a situation like we’re in.
Here’s what we’re looking for so that you can pray and maybe even know someone who is selling theirs that would work for us. This list may sound a little picky to some, but it’s what we need to be the house that we live and do ministry in and out of.
- A 5th wheel
- Less than 10 years old
- At least 40’ long inside
- Slide outs with awnings
- NO soft spots on the roof
- NO soft spots on any of the flooring or walls
- All working appliances and preferably a real sized house refrigerator
- Washer and dryer
- Well taken care of inside and out
- Good furniture
- NO bunkhouses, toy haulers, second bedrooms, etc., just A bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, dining areas.
- The bathroom needs to have the sink, toilet, and shower in its own room with a door
- Smoke and Pet Free
