So far, we’ve had 3 named storms and no hurricanes. If you follow weather like we do, you probably know this is relatively low. Also, there’s been a few “areas of interest” pop up here and there, they’ve been few and haven’t amounted to much. Again, this is relatively low.
This doesn’t mean that we’re out of the woods this year, as this is the time when things usually start heating up. While most of the larger named storms in the past have happened during mid-August through early October, this doesn’t mean that they can’t happen later, remember Hurricane Sandy in 2012 hit at the end of October.
This was NOAA’s forecast as of 8/1, though I expect it will be lowered, but just a little, soon, and some weather agencies have already said such. Named storms 14-20, Hurricanes 6-10, and major hurricanes, what we used to call 3 and above, 3-5. (NOAA still expects above-normal Atlantic hurricane season | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)
Also remember that as always, this is what the “experts” claim will happen in the Atlantic basin, which includes the Gulf of Mexico, and does NOT mean this is what will hit the USA.
Currently there is one area of interest that is off of the African coast, where a lot of them form, so we’re paying attention to this.
We’re still praying about our next deployment or whether to stay in LA and do some more relief work from Ida, which will be a year ago this coming weekend. We’ve also been in contact with other areas of need around the country to see if we would be a good fit for what their needs are.
It takes quite a bit for us to move Camp Calvary and we want to be good stewards of what The LORD has placed us over and don't just run into every disaster that occurs. We usually only move when there are long-term needs that we can help with, but if asked we may come out for shorter times with less equipment.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers, we’ll keep you updated as we continue to work on maintenance issues with our equipment. Also, we still don’t have our truck engine replaced and can’t move forward without it, so keep that in your prayers.
