Had another long week, but we accomplished a lot, thanks for the prayers! 

Monday Nick and Keith who goes to CCSAV, both joined me.  They worked on Linda and Josh’s house, who have 2 autistic teenagers!  Linda’s mom works tirelessly, it seems from sunup to sundown cleaning anything they could salvage from their yard.  Their church worked on the tear out Saturday but there was still some things that needed finished up, so Nick and Keith worked on that.  By the end of the day, we were able to get 2 dehus and several fans going.  The next day I added another dehu.  By Thursday they were dried out!  A friend loaned them a travel trailer to live in, so Saturday I got the electric run for that.  I’m hoping to spray their home today.

Tuesday I was able to get Keith over to Beau and Maria’s, who have 2 teenagers as well.  They had been working hard to get everything removed as I directed them, and Keith was able to help them finish up.  I was able to set up dehus and fans at their home at the end of the day.  Saturday his home was dry enough to remove my equipment and I’ll spray sometime this week.

I also had a small dry out that only took one dehu and a few fans at Tim’s house, a retired widower.  It was dry by Thursday, so I was able to get it sprayed out and he’s all set.

Keith also helped Thursday and Friday and Jeff, one of Keith’s neighbors joined us on Friday.  I had them at Chad’s.  Chad, his wife and some of their friends had also been working to get their home cleaned out as I had directed.  They both work so didn’t get it finished and Keith and Jeff almost finished up Friday, the rest will be done today.

I’ve been directing Tray and Caitlin, the homeowner I was trying to find while the road was still too flooded last week.  They’re making great progress, but both work and they have little kids.  A friend loaned them a travel trailer to live in at their home.  I was able to set that up with electric so now they’re at least in their driveway!  They still have more work to do and I’m hoping we can get to that this week.

I’ve also been helping direct Nicholas, a single dad, who works a lot.  His sister, brother-in-law, daughter, and their son have been getting a lot done and it just needs a final clean and it will be ready to dry and then spray.

I also helped Benji with some direction on his tear out and his church helped him get things done.  He had a couple dehus and fans and I added a dehu and a couple of fans and his is now dry.  He’s an associate pastor at a local church and a contractor from his church is going to spray it and help him rebuild so he’s all taken care of.

We’ve also been helping Cynthia.  Her son, his wife, and their 2 kids live with her.  They hired someone to do their tear out and found major leaks in part of their home that had been going on for years.  They’ve got some things to get fixed before too much can move forward so they are talking to a contractor.  Saturday, we moved the equipment from Beau’s to their home and it’s currently drying.

Mary Jo has been staying busy at the Resource Center and Brittany and our grandkids all came and helped for a few hours Monday!  They helped pack snack bags and helped folks shop for items they wanted as well as moved a few things around.

Besides monitoring the dryness of homes and moving equipment around in them every morning and monitoring the progress of the tear outs in the homes we’re helping, I also talked to several other homeowners about possibly helping them.  A couple of them don’t believe they need to do all that’s needed, and a few others have had other groups come in and do the tear out.  Unfortunately, I was not able to convince them or the groups helping them that wood must be dry to spray them with chemical.  I encouraged them to do their homework like I have to find out the truth, but groups just want to come in and get numbers and move on.  Sad.  We’ll see if any of them contact me back.

Unless we find more homeowners who want to do the tear out correctly, we’re down to one home that needs the work done.  I’ve got a local business bringing in some vols Thursday, and we’ll get to that then and whatever is left Keith and a few others will finish up.

Team Rubicon, a group of veterans who go around and help after disasters has come in to help and though not necessarily a group of believer’s, wants to do the right thing.  We’ve served alongside of them before and they are busy gutting homes and I will ensure they are dry and then spray them.  Quite a contrast to the other groups!

They’ve already got 2 ready and one is close to being dry, so I’ll move equipment in there today and hopefully spray it later this week.  The other is really wet so as soon as I have equipment freed up, I’ll move some over there.  They’re working on 2 more now and will have more coming up.

It’s been a blessing having so many homeowners with their friends, family, co-workers, and churches helping them so far, we’ll see how it all plays out.  I’ve got several folks from Nick’s church who are retired or have time that are also interested in helping out long-term.  We’ve also got some repeat offenders from outside the area that have expressed interest in joining us.  We’re going to check with the homeowners we’ve helped and see if they’re interested in us helping them rebuild!  More to follow on this!

It’s been great to spend time with our family, something we don’t get to do often enough!  Saturday Everett got baptized by Nick as their church was doing a baptism and he wanted to do it!  It was a 3 hour round trip to go and watch at the beach, but we were blessed to go!  We also got to see a new friend Nick get baptized and Zach from CCSAV and I were able to talk to him about making that decision just before the event started.  I know many others were praying and talking to him about as well!  What a blessing to be part of what The Lord is doing with CCSAV!   It was a long day for grandpa!  We also were able to celebrate MJ’s birthday Friday with family, another rarity for us!  Brittany made her breakfast pancakes with a candle and of course a song.  Then Melissa and JJ joined us for dinner and we had cake, candles, presents, and more singing!

Continue to keep us in your prayers.  We need to find a place to set up Camp Calvary, so pray for that.  Also, we could really use a couple more dehus and several more air moving fans.  The dehus we need are around $2000 per and the fans around $350 per.  If you’re interested in helping with any of the expenses with Calvary Relief, please click here.
