Psalm 119:133 AMP
Establish my footsteps in [the way of] Your word; Do not let any human weakness have power over me [causing me to be separated from You].
As Christians we all should want to know God’s will for our lives, but like everything else in life that we want, we want it now, we want it easy, and mostly we want it just handed to us without much, if any, effort on our part.
That is not the way anything about life is described in God’s Word. That’s what happens in heaven, at least to the best of what I can figure out from reading The Bible!
Life in general is tough. We just made a few trips into an area affected by a hurricane and with our 3 trailers and one that a friend used to bring in some of our stuff, we had 6 blowouts an almost blowout and ended up replacing 8 tires! All while serving The LORD’s with our lives! Maybe the devil is trying to prevent us from serving God’s, good luck with that satan, maybe there’s sin in our lives, well we’re not perfect, or maybe things just happen, you pick!
It's not about our circumstances and we need to remember that today isn’t happening the way it is because of what I decide to do this morning, I’ve been making choices for how I’m going to live my life since I was almost 15 and I’m sure if you think about it, so have you!
God wants to use our circumstances in our lives to make us perfect, in other words, to be just like Jesus! (James 1:2-4). The LORD promised us in Romans 8:28 that He is working ALL things out for our good. Sounds good, then what about our tires? Good? I didn’t think so, especially when the tires damaged my trailer including breaking the gas line to our stove and I almost got run over several times as trucks sped by!
God’s promise of good also has conditions, it’s for those that love God, remember Jesus said if you love Me you will keep My commandments and the other condition is when we’re doing things according to His purposes, so according to His will! I’ll get back to that in a minute.
As with ALL Scripture, it is imperative that we read, study, and understand it in the context of the passage it comes from, the book that it’s in, and of course it MUST line up with ALL the rest of God’s Word, or we simply have a misunderstanding of it. It’s up to us to dig into God’s Word to understand God’s Word as we let Scripture interpret Scripture.
Now back to God’s will. It actually boils down to 2 things, first that ALL come to a saving knowledge of The LORD Jesus Christ as we repent of our wicked sinful life and make Him The LORD (give Him control) of our lives. Then once we accept Him and give Him control, we live for Him and die to what we want to do. We obey Him and what He wants for our lives. In short, we become more like Jesus. Again in context look at Romans 8:29 along with verse 28 and you’ll see that the good referred to in 28 is to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus!
Where do we discover what He wants for us, back to Psalm 119, from His Word, The Bible. God isn’t hiding anything from a Christian, we simply ignore Him and His Word and instead choose to follow our fleshly desires, chase after things of this world including the world’s erroneous philosophies and ways (Colossians 2:8, 1 Corinthians 2:13), and just seemingly don’t care about what The Creator of the universe has to say about how to live our lives here on this earth!
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve run into that either aren’t living for The LORD and living for themselves and/or have some really far out philosophies, beliefs, and doctrines that they follow instead of following Christ, though they claim to be Christians. Most of these folks have never read through the Bible and studied it for themselves!
Life is tough, if you disagree then I doubt you’re telling anyone the truth and you're lying to yourself! Jesus promised us that in this world we’d have trouble/tribulations but take heart I’ve (Jesus) overcome the world! (John 16:33)
Jesus said that anyone who does not take up his cross (die to ourselves and our fleshly desires), is not worthy of Him! In other words, not worthy of the sacrifice and death that He suffered for us! These are Jesus’ words, not mine! (Matthew 10:38-39)
Read though Psalm 119 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 today and you’re discover real quick that ALL we need is God’s Word and it alone will tell us how to live our lives. Quit sitting around doing nothing, making excuses, hiding in fear, living for yourself, etc, etc, and start living your life for The LORD. Only what’s done for Him will last and time on this earth is quickly fading away! (Matthew 25, Matthew 16:24-27)
